Glass or drywall partitions in an office
Glass keeps the office bright and open. Drywall gives privacy, wall space and fixings. Most offices use both.

Glass partitions let daylight reach the centre of the floor and keep teams visually connected. They suit meeting rooms and offices along the perimeter where light would otherwise be blocked. Privacy is added with film, frosting or blinds, and acoustic performance depends on the glazing and seals.
Comparison guides set real options side by side and say when each one suits, rather than naming a winner for every home.
Drywall partitions provide solid walls for screens, whiteboards and storage, and can achieve good sound separation with insulation. They block light, so they suit rooms in the core, storerooms and spaces that need full privacy. A mix of the two usually serves an office well.
What matters most on this page
Light and openness
Glass shares daylight; drywall blocks it.
Privacy and sound
Drywall with insulation offers strong privacy; glass needs good seals and film.
Usable wall
Drywall carries screens and shelving; glass offers little fixing space.
When each suits
Meeting rooms
Glass fronts with a solid back wall for the screen is a common combination.
Private offices
Glass with privacy film or blinds, or drywall where confidentiality matters.
Support spaces
Storerooms, comms rooms and quiet rooms usually use drywall.
Before choosing partitions
Map daylight
Where windows are and which rooms would block them.
Rank privacy needs
Which rooms need visual and acoustic privacy.
Plan screens and storage
Rooms that need wall-mounted equipment need a solid wall.
Questions we are often asked
Are glass partitions soundproof?
They can perform well with good glazing and seals, but rarely match insulated drywall.
Can screens be mounted on glass?
Generally not. A solid wall or a freestanding stand is used instead.
Which is easier to change later?
Demountable glass systems can be relocated; drywall is removed and rebuilt.
Do glass partitions make rooms warmer?
Not by themselves. Solar heat comes through external windows; internal glass mainly shares light and views.
